Toys for all
We all believe that it has been thanks to the influence of Frankie, who has been leading this rural training center for women for almost 30 years. Today she has organised the first golf sponsorship tournament in the history of Kimlea, and she wanted to have the sun showcasing its best. Evidently, the sun obeyed her! Frankie knows very well the ground she is treading on because the Kimlea team dedicates a lot of time to being with the students, both at school and in the towns where they live. She herself grew up in a small plantation, and spent many hours picking coffee, in addition to studying and helping her mother, while the boys tended to the cattle.
After years of operation, the prestige of the school is great, and all the girls are able to gain meaningful employment. The idea of Frankie is to be able to get, not only aid from abroad, but from Kenyan people who are well off financially, so that they carry the responsibility of helping their country. After much preparation, today marks the first golf tournament to benefit Kimlea.
While a group goes to Maramba to distribute the toy donations that we had brought from Barcelona, a photo and video team heads to the golf tournament. In the afternoon the whole group goes to the golf club, and we can see how, between raffles and tickets, a good collaboration has been achieved to gain many student scholarships. Go forward, Frankie, we will always be willing to help!
Oh, and of course ... as had never seen a day as clear as today, we watched the night sky from the golf lawn, a sky full of stars and constellations, which are very different from what we usually see in our city.
