Twenty-five percent of the population in the Democratic Republic of Congo has the carrier gene for sickle cell disease. This disease is a type of anaemia that can cause, among other things, limb deformities.
At Monkole Hospital, these people are treated so that they can walk properly and improve their quality of life.
